The beef pho is frequently praised for being a warming, flavourful choice that is perfect for a chilly morning at Queen Victoria Market. However, one critic warned of a particularly disappointing experience where the broth lacked depth and the chilli toppings appeared old and unappealing.

First time trying here and surprisingly mind blowing. A gem in Queen vic market. Regret not having tried it before. Had their rice vermicelli noodle and it was so fresh and yummy. The Vietnamese coffee was nice too. Quite strong, just the way I like it. We also had burn mi and spring rolls and everything was so good. Will defiantly be back to try

How the shortlist compares

Where the other top pho spots stand out

The runners-up offer specialised experiences. Chú 7 Gà provides excellent value with generous portions in the west, while Dai Nam is noted for its substantial toppings. For those seeking a modern twist, Good Days in Brunswick and Collingwood offer refined, innovative broths and silky noodles, though at a higher price point. Hien Vuong remains a reliable, hearty option in Footscray, and Delicious Asian Cuisines excels with its lemongrass chicken, even if the atmosphere can be quite lively.

  • Chú 7 Gà offers large, protein-rich portions for great value
  • Good Days provides a premium, modern reimagining of traditional flavours
  • Dai Nam stands out for its generous, variety-filled noodle soups

How to choose

Choosing pho in Melbourne

When selecting your next bowl, consider the vibe you are after. If you want a quick, budget-friendly meal while exploring, Alex Canteen is ideal. For a more upscale, contemporary dining experience with unique pickles, look toward the Good Days locations. If you prefer traditional, heavy-hitting portions of beef and chicken, the western and northern suburbs offer excellent heavyweights. Always check if you prefer a traditional suburban flavour profile or a more westernised, refined version of the classic broth.

  • Pick Alex Canteen for a casual, modern market atmosphere
  • Opt for Good Days if you prefer refined, innovative broths
  • Look to Chú 7 Gà for high-protein, heavy-duty portions
